INSTRUCTIONS FOR MOUNTING YOUR COSTUME

IMPORTANT NOTES:

If you plan to supply your own poster, I recommend mounting that first.  Lay closed display front side down & insert poster in the back starting with the center panel. A thin plastic object like a spatula or ruler may help get the curled poster ends under the panels. slide top & bottom in top & bottom panels (bottom has 4 rubber bumpers & top has 2 wall hangers in back) As you lay out all the pieces of your costume over the poster, look to see how the whole "artwork" looks - sometimes moving a cuff, collar or tail can expose details of the poster that make it look better. You can lay out your costume and photo (if you have one) any way you like. I prefer an "artsy" angle like the one above. You can click the photo to enlarge it. The above pictured vintage costume has a photo of the Playboy Bunny wearing it at the Miami Playboy Club. If you bought the new custom clips I designed (shown above) organize them with the other mounting tools (ear perch, tail velcro, photo corners) nearby. The clips with a larger "bite" are for the bodice crotch & top back sides where there is more fabric to clip. If you're using the old mini-clothespins, you'll be placing them at the same points as the custom clips, and I'll explain more at the end of this pictorial.

The large clips are for the cuffs (see above photo) and there is a long clip for VINTAGE collars only. Bunny PJ collars look best when mounted with a smaller clip at each end. With the costume laid out as you want it to be mounted in the display, pick up each piece individually & place the clip(s) on it. The above photo shows the cuff mounted in the new clip design, which keeps the cuffs neatly pressed for display or wearing.

2 BODICE HIP CLIPS

One clip goes at the upper edge of each hip - right near the laces.

2 BODICE UPPER SIDE BACK CLIPS

One clip goes at the upper edge of each side of the top back. Pull taut to prevent cups from drooping or pressing against closed door.

1 LONG OR 2 SHORT COLLAR CLIPS

Place clips (at far ends) to pull collar as taut as possible. Before gluing, test to be sure bowtie doesn't droop.

2 LARGE CUFF CLIPS

Place clips on each cuff back - make sure the cufflinks are facing forward.

1 ADHESIVE VELCRO STRIP

Remove outer tapes to expose adhesive. Near TOP back of tail, press SOFT side of Velcro to tail - on Bunny PJ tail, it fits right under the label - press tail to display interior. You can add glue to Velcro on display &  tack (sew) Velcro to tail  to make more secure.

4 CLEAR ADHESIVE CORNER PHOTO MOUNTS

Pull these from paper backing & place one on each corner of your photo adhesive side facing the back. With all 4 corners on photo, press in place. These can be repositioned as needed, or glued to make more secure.

After you've placed the clip on each item, put it back in place as you want it displayed. If you have access to acrylic solvent, you can apply it with a syringe applicator to the edges of the clips & ear perch. Otherwise, use a clear glue that is made for plastics & carefully place each clipped part back into the display after the glue is applied. When you've secured all the clips, let the glue dry or cure according to the directions on the glue packaging. Once cured, you might want to wipe off any fingerprints (see above photo) You can stand the case up or hang it on the wall using the wall hangers on back. You should now be able to easily remove and/or replace the costume, poster & photo any time you wish.

A note about using the old mini clothespins: The placement of the clothespins is basically the same as the new custom clips, but you may have to make some modifications. For instance, we found that wrapping white ribbon at the ends of the collar & cuffs & crotch, and velcroing the ribbon into a fitted loop around the costume part that it is going to secure, & then  gluing the clothespins to the ribbon (behind the costume so they are invisible) looked better  -in our opinion - than clipping clothespins directly on the ends & gluing them with the tail ends of the clothespins showing.

We clipped the hip clothespins to the back of the laces that were between the eyelet holes. We clipped the clothespins to the garment straps at the top of the bodice.

Our objective with these displays is to make the mounted costume look like it is floating in thin air - which is why we created the new "invisible" clips. They are easier to mount & use than the clothespins, and they are more durable & less visible.

My new display poster idea is a colorful pop art poster inspired by a Playboy Bunny PJ photo that goes behind the bunny costume and makes it look like the "bunny" is wearing the actual costume!

As soon as the finished product arrives, I'll test it in a display case & see how it looks & I'll let you know. Until then, here's a photo of it - Let me know what you think

Good luck with your new displays!

I welcome your photos & comments after you've set these up in your home or office.
