The three founders of Playboy and later the Playboy Clubs were Hugh Hefner, Victor Lownes and Arnie Morton. Another "key player" was Playboy's then Publicist, Benny Dunn. Benny had many illustrious careers & powerful connections.
In 1959, Benny was Talent coordinator for Hef's first Television venture, "Playboy's Penthouse". Back then, Benny was part of the "in crowd" at Playboy. He partied all night with Vic & Hef. Benny ran the notorious "Black Orchid" nightclub - considered one of Chicago's trendiest hot spots of its day. It featured top performers of that era like Frank Sinatra, Harry Belafonte, Johnny Mathis, & many more. Benny formed connections with Hollywood royalty & was considered to be very influential in the entertainment world back then.
The Black Orchid was located on Chicago's famous Rush Street. Benny's nick name was "The King of Rush Street". Benny was frequently mentioned in the legendary "Kup's Column" in the Chicago Sun Times. Benny also was a comedian & had many celebrity friends.
Benny & Warren Beatty were in a "cutting edge" film "noir" called, "Mickey One". Most accounts incorrectly state that "Mickey One" was the only film in which Benny appeared.
